“My release from the UFC came as a surprise but it hasn’t changed my passion or drive to continuing my pursuit of being the best in the world. Originally I wanted to forego announcing my release until I had something tangible and exciting to produce alongside it. Fortunately I have a great team behind me helping to chart out the path to becoming the best version of myself. There’s lots to look forward to and can’t wait to show it all off to you my supportive family, friends, and fans. Thanks everyone, this year’s going to be exciting.”

Adams released a statement on Twitter:

“Spoke with the manager and I’m not in the ufc anymore. As easy as it would be to give up, I’m going to keep going. I made the changes too late and now i have to pay for that but i have the right pieces in place now. I will continue Hoping and working for the best moving forward.”

Katona, 28, defeated Jay Cucciniello by unanimous decision to win the TUF 27 finale. He earned a win over Matthew Lopez at his UFC debut, but has lost his two subsequent fights, to Merab Dvalishvili and Hunter Azure, both by unanimous decision. His overall MMA record is 8-2-0.

Adams, also 28, has lost his last three bouts, to Arjan Bhullar, Greg Hardy, and most recently Justin Tafa at UFC 247. A Dana White’s Contender Series signee, his only UFC win came at his debut against Chris De La Rocha. He has a 5-3-0 MMA record.

Katona and Adams aren’t the only fighters who got cut. Zane Simon of Bloody Elbow reported 13 fighters dropped from the roster, including Katona and fan favorite Ben Saunders.
