Nate Diaz has been cleared of wrongdoing by the USADA. On Thursday, the outspoken fighter announced the match against Jorge Masvidal for the inaugural “BMF” belt was off after the USADA flagged his test results from a recent out-of-competition sample.
Friday, the USADA acknowledged Diaz had gone public and confirmed the results had shown atypical finding for traces LGD-4033, or Ligandrol, a selective androgen receptor modulator. The results were traced back to a tainted batch of multivitamins. As such, Diaz will not be penalized for the results.
“Mr. Diaz has not committed an anti-doping violation, has not been provisionally suspended and is not subject to any sanctions. Additionally, UFC has been informed by independent experts who have determined that there is unequivocally no appreciable performance enhancing or therapeutic benefit from the significantly limited amount of LGD-4033 that may be present in his system, which is roughly 10,000 times lower than one LGD-4033 therapeutic dose.”
USADA Statement
While the UFC and USADA have pointed to new policies implemented earlier this year which changed the way the USADA addressed failed tests resulting from tainted supplements, some fighters are unhappy that they have been punished for similar infractions. Others are skeptical of how quickly the issue was resolved, with some speculating Diaz going public forced the USADA’s hand, with others pointing to the much-hyped fight that was on the line if the matter wasn’t resolved quickly.
Diaz, for his part, is just happy to have his name cleared, tweeting: “I’m not gonna have my name tainted as a cheater like these other motherf*ckers who keep quiet until after the fight just so that they can get paid.”
