Paul Daley has taken to Instagram to announce that he’s been fired as Bellator MMA’s TV analyst.
The welterweight contender took on his new role in front of the camera for Bellator’s 2019 European Series, and suspects it was his critical opinions of former opponent Michael “Venom” Page at Bellator London 2 that got him canned.
Page defeated overmatched opponent Giovanni Melillo via KO, but Daley was vocal about his disapproval of the matchup. “This is ridiculous,” he said on air. “You can’t continually beat these kinds of opponents. Yes, he knocks them out, but he’s expected to knock them out. What does this prove, the fact that he knocked out a guy nobody will remember? It proves nothing. It proves nothing at all. Why didn’t he do that to me? Why didn’t he do that to Douglas Lima? Because he’s not of that calibre.”
Daley might not be behind the mic anytime soon, but he’s still contracted to fight for the promotion. Since losing to Page at Bellator 216 he’s bounced back with wins over Erick Silva and Saad Awad.
