UFC Hall of Famer BJ Penn has been hospitalized after flipping his car in a possible DUI accident.
The single-car accident occurred last weekend in Penn’s hometown of Hilo, Hawaii. Hawaii Police Department Cpt. Ken Quiocho told Big Island Now that Penn lost control of his black pickup and rolled the vehicle in front of a mall on Feb. 7 at approximately 7p.m. Penn was the only occupant in the vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to Hilo Medical Center, where his condition is unknown.
Suspicions Penn was driving under the influence were raised following a blood draw at the hospital, which is standard procedure for car crash victims. Quiocho declined to give Penn’s blood alcohol level, citing the ongoing investigation. He also confirmed speed was “certainly a factor in the crash.”
